The Algarve is witnessing a new wave of wine production, and Quinta dos Capinhas is a pioneer. Learn all about our winemaking inspirations!
A new wave of winemaking is taking place in the Algarve region of Portugal. Quinta dos Capinhas, a small vineyard located in the hills near Lagoa, is standing out. Our family is reviving ancient techniques and producing some of the best wines in Portugal, thanks to amazing enologists.
While Quinta dos Capinhas was only created in 2015, the winemaking traditions in the Algarve have been at it for centuries! If you’re looking for an authentic Portuguese wine-making experience, Quinta dos Capinhas is the place to be.
A bit of Algarve wine history
The Algarve has a long and storied history with wine. For centuries, the region was one of Portugal’s most important wine-growing areas. But over time, production diminished, and the vineyards were left to fall into disrepair.
In the region of Porches, where our vineyard is located, there was one of the most important wine producers in Portugal back in the 16th century – exporting wine to the Portuguese king himself!
Quinta dos Capinhas enters the act
Once our family got together in the Algarve region, we found ourselves in one of the most beautiful places in the world. And one of the most charming things about the area of Porches were the many old vineyards, scattered and forgotten by time.
As we had a particular taste for winemaking – and drinking – we decided to make the vineyard dream come true.
In Quinta dos Capinhas’ short time, we have already made great strides in restoring the vineyards of the Algarve to their former glory. We are proud to be a part of this new wave of winemaking in Portugal, and we invite you to come to visit us and taste our wines for yourself!
Red, white and rosé wines
You can taste our delicious wines at the winery Adega Cooperativa de Lagoa, where they are produced. If you want to learn more about our different wines and our winemaking process, have a look at our website and read some wine reviews.
In case you want to see where the magic happens, Quinta dos Capinhas also has holiday villas available for rental so you can properly have an immersed Algarve vineyard experience.
