The Algarve is a perfect place for amazing family holidays
With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s no wonder this region is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Portugal. The Algarve has some of the best beaches in Europe, and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained.
Where is Quinta dos Capinhas located?
Our guest houses and vineyard are located near some of the most beautiful beaches and attractions in southern Portugal. More specifically, in the municipality of Lagoa, right next to a charming village called Porches.
Take a look at the map below to get to know better where we are:
As you can see, we are located around 35 minutes away from the airport in Faro, in between the mountains and the sea.
Here are some of our top recommendations for things to do during your stay with us!
Top things to do in the Algarve around our homes
Marinha beach
This secluded beach is located near our guest houses and is one of the most beautiful in the Algarve. With stunning rock formations, beautiful colors, and an authentic natural vibe, Marinha beach is perfect for a relaxing day by the sea.
It has been pointed out several times as one of the best beaches in Europe by Forbes, and it’s located only 15 minutes away from your holiday home in Quinta dos Capinhas.
Visit the Benagil cave
This natural wonder is a must-see when you’re in the Algarve. The Benagil cave is a unique rock formation that boats can only reach. It’s called an Algar, which is a sea cave with a hole on top – and a small beach inside. Sounds idyllic, doesn’t it?
In order to visit the Benagil cave, you can take a boat or kayak tour from one of the nearby beaches, or you can even go swimming in the crystal-clear waters. Even though it gets packed with tourists in the summer, it’s still a worth visit. Our local tip is to join an early-morning tour to the cave to avoid the crowds and also see the cave from the coast.
But you can take a walk along the cliffs and marvel at one of the most beautiful places in Portugal. And the best part? Our holiday homes are just 17 minutes away from it.
Silves Castle
If you’re looking for a different type of attraction in the Algarve, that means not beaches, you’re going to like Silves. This city was once the Moorish capital of the Algarve kingdom, and its beautiful castle is still standing tall and proud.
This well-preserved Moorish castle is a great place to learn about the history of the Algarve. Silves Castle is located just a short drive from our guest houses, and you can truly feel you’re in a different Algarve here.
Cliff and beach of Nossa Senhora da Rocha
Picture this: a long, narrow cliff that balances over the sea, dividing two golden beaches, with a small Algarve chapel on top. This is a true place, and it’s located only 5 minutes away from our vineyard. In fact, the cliff of Nossa Senhora da Rocha is an idea for a longer walk if you’re into it.
It’s simply stunning and represents everything that is right with the Algarve. The traditional chapel, the sea, the romance… Truly inspiring. Definitely worth a visit!
Zoomarine
This family-friendly attraction is a great place to spend a day. Located in Albufeira, at 12 minutes from our holiday homes, Zoomarine features rides, shows, and educational exhibits about marine life.
Ferragudo
This traditional fishing village is a great place to try some fresh seafood. Not to mention, Ferragudo has one of the most photogenic sunsets in the entire Algarve.
It’s also home to a beautiful sandy beach where you can relax and soak up the sun. Only 20-minutes away from Quinta dos Capinhas, definitely, a great place to go and enjoy the delicious local cuisine.
Armação de Pêra beach
This is another one of our favorite beaches in the Algarve. It’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the stunning views. The Pescadores beach is fantastic for a day with the family.
The city of Armação de Pêra is just a 5-minutes drive away from our vineyard, so you can go grocery shopping and stop for some ice cream by the beach all at the same time.
Salgados lagoon and beach
Speaking of animal life, the Salgados lagoon is also worth a visit. It’s a natural reserve with flamingos and other bird species that attract many bird watching fans to the Algarve.
It also has wooden walkways and an excellent beach facing the dunes called Praia Grande de Pera. A short 15-minute drive will take you there, but it’s also a great place for a bike ride.
